Soil Phosphorus

Considered one of our macronutrients for turfgrass needs, this session will discuss both the agronomic and environmental value of phosphorus. It will discuss the forms of P in the soil, what P does for your plants and separate phospate from phosphite.

Learning Outcomes:

  • The possible negative effects (to the environment) when P is over applied
  • Recognize the fate of fertiliser P in the soil, where does it go?
  • Be able to understand if the use of ‘P solublizing’ additives is beneficial
  • Difference between phosphate and phosphite, and how to find this information on a fertiliser label
  • Know the agronmic role of P for turfgrass, especially for meadow grass
