Dealing With a Disaster - Are You Prepared?

Global Warning!  - An inside view from the Fire Officers, the Course Manager and the Club Manager when disaster struck at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club in the searing heat of last summer.

Burnham Burns

Are you prepared for dealing with the unexpected? Would the fire crews be able to access your golf course on a Sunday afternoon and what measures would you have in place?

Learn how the Club had not only to deal with the fire but the concerns of the local residents, as well as the damage caused to the irrigation system and ensuring incorrect media coverage didn’t spread faster than the flames.

This is a one-off opportunity to gain an inside view on how this unfortunate disaster was averted. What steps has Richard Whyman, the Course Manager had to take in dealing with the aftermath. Listen to the feedback from the Fire Service and understand how the Club Manager, Karen Drake dealt with the aftermath of an event that became national news.

In a global climate that is set to continue to overheat in forthcoming summers could a disaster like this hit your club next and can you afford to be unprepared?

Disaster Management Workshop

Following last summer’s heatwave and the ensuing problems that many golf courses have encountered, we would encourage clubs to attend this session to gain an understanding of how they should be managing their disaster/emergency plans and ensure members are aware of the procedures should a crisis occur.

Having discussed the effect of a course fire, how do you deal with the extreme storms or hurricanes that reach our shores and the effect of floods or electrical blackouts? Alternatively, your club could be subject to an outbreak of food poisoning - the golf club industry is not immune to any of these issues. Are you prepared to handle a crisis if and when one should arise? Are your employees prepared to act professionally and efficiently during a crisis?

Protect yourself, your employees, the club and its members by having a plan in place to encounter any crisis that might occur. Don’t just react to a problem… prepare for the unexpected!
