Seminar 10 - Roots -The Holy Grail...How to Get Them and Keep Them!

PRE-BOOKING ONLY AVAILABLE FOR BIGGA MEMBERS

Rooting determines turf wear and drought resistance - no wonder we are obsessed with it! There are numerous biological and chemical products to help us but are we looking in the right place?

This seminar looks at factors affecting rooting and the key link with infiltration and moisture distribution. Using research data, we will explore the effect of organic matter, use of different dressings/ rootzones, compaction and turfing on rooting and give guidance on what we need to achieve for better rooting (and playing surfaces!).

Learning Outcomes:
• What factors affect rooting
• The link between rooting and infiltration rate
• Causes of poor infiltration e.g. organic matter, compaction, incompatible dressings, turfing
• How to improve roots and thereby turf wear and drought resistance

Presented by Stella Rixon, Senior Agronomist and Daniel Dean, Research Officer, STRI
