5K Syngenta Early Bird Run at BTME 2023

Run for your Fund

A popular feature of the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition (BTME) is returning to the show, with attendees encouraged to get out of bed early in support of the BIGGA Greenkeepers Benevolent Fund.

Everyone who takes part in the 5K Syngenta Early Bird Run at BTME 2023, taking place on Wednesday 25 January, will earn £10 from Syngenta for the greenkeepers’ charity – along with a fantastic warm hat to add to the Hicure Run Club kit provided in previous years.

The Greenkeepers’ Benevolent Fund provides invaluable support for BIGGA members past and present who find themselves in financial need. At BTME 2022 last March, runners raised nearly £900 from Syngenta. The BIGGA Premium Partner is hoping to post a personal best by setting a target to raise over £1,000 this January.

The Syngenta Early Bird Run is intended to encourage everybody to benefit from the health enhancements and stress relief of regular exercise, especially through the dark winter months and has become one of the most popular events at BTME.

BIGGA’s Steve Wragg, trustee of the Greenkeepers’ Benevolent Fund, said: “The BTME Early Bird Run in March was a great event and gave a brilliant kick start to the charity, at a time when so many of our fund-raising activities had been curtailed due to COVID-19.

“Our huge thanks to Syngenta on behalf of the Fund for their generous donation and for the continued support for 2023, when we hope to raise more money than ever before in support of BIGGA members who find themselves in financial difficulty, particularly given the current cost of living crisis.

“With BTME back in its usual place in the calendar, we are hoping that this year we will see even more runners taking part and raising extra funds for the extremely valuable role the benevolent fund plays for greenkeepers.”

If you’re unable to be at BTME, there is still the chance to raise your contribution to the charity – and get your Hicure Run Club beanie. Pre-register your name on the Syngenta Turf website and join the Hicure Run Club on Strava. Run a 5km route at some time during the BTME event (22-26 January 2023) and your effort will automatically qualify for the £10 contribution.
