Is poor governance affecting the greenkeeping industry?

2:00PM - 5:30PM, 22 Oct 2022

Is poor governance affecting the greenkeeping industry in the UK? If so, what can we do about it?

The majority (over 60%) of golf clubs in the UK are run by committees and boards of volunteers, many of whom have little or no experience in greenkeeping and yet they control the budgets that head greenkeepers have to work within. Many will be instructing experienced and talented professionals regarding how to do their job.

This class will look at some examples where greenkeepers have struggled to get the resources and support they need from their committees and will also look as some case studies where the club has made a change to their governance structure that has resulted in improved working conditions for the greenkeeping team.

Learning outcomes

  • How poor governance can affect a greenkeeper’s daily life
  • Tips and ideas to tackle poor governance at your club
  • Case studies from golf clubs that have changed
  • Why good governance is such an important factor in building a successful golf club
