Phosphite use in turfgrass

2:00PM - 5:30PM, 21 Jan 2024

This class will explain what phosphite is and describe its formulation and history of usage. Dr John Dempsey will show published research detailing phosphite’s effect on turfgrass growth and development.

With the results of trials confirming phosphite’s ability to suppress pathogens and enhance turfgrass quality, John will explain the means of suppression, providing the results of laboratory work and explaining how it stimulates and enhances defence responses.

John will show what happens when phosphite is applied, with the uptake, translocation and fate of foliar applied phosphite explained by High Performance Ion Chromatography.

Learning outcomes:

  • What phosphite is chemically and its effects on turfgrass
  • How phosphite stimulates turfgrass defence responses
  • Know the detrimental effect phosphite can have in low phosphorus situations and ensure it is used appropriately
  • How to combine phosphite with other nutrients or fungicides to improve the efficacy of disease control
  • How to incorporate phoshite into a management programme
